Description:
This is specialized work in the proper operation of the Water
Pollution Control Facility on an assigned shift. An employee in this
classification is responsible for the proper operation, care, and
maintenance of a variety of Water Pollution Control Facility equipment
during this shift. The employee in this classification is required to know
and work in accordance with the established plant operating procedures and
will be directly responsible to the Superintendent and Assistant
Superintendent. The Water Pollution Control Facility operates on a
seven-calendar day basis. The following duties are normal of this
position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not
exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a
logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required
and assigned. Must work Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays as required.
Operate all wastewater treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment
as required. Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels to determine
processing requirements. Operates valves and gates manually or by remote
control, stop and start pumps and generators to control and adjust flows.
Maintains shift log and record meter and gauge readings. Extracts samples
for routine laboratory tests and analyses. Removes grit from chamber and
grease from primary tanks when required. Performs routine equipment
maintenance functions and related custodial duties. Operates and maintains
emergency power generating equipment as required. Repairs primary and
secondary settling tanks as required. Pumps sludge from primary tanks to
the digesters. Operates belt filter press and gravity table when required.
Operates or assists with sewer pipe cleaning equipment when required.
Performs all operational, maintenance, and repair tasks on all buildings,
pump stations, collection systems, and grounds as required. Should be
available for work day or night when any emergency arises.
Experience:
Knowledge of methods and practices of modern wastewater
treatment facility and of standards and normal operating procedures
applicable to the facility. Knowledge of the functions of engines, pumps,
digesters, and mechanical equipment. Knowledge of the implications of
improper sewage treatment towards community health and well being. Ability
to inspect mechanical equipment, detect flaws and defects, and make remedial
judgements. Ability to read meters and charts accurately, to maintain
simple records or shift operations. Ability to perform maintenance tasks as
required. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain effective communications and working relationship with
employees, local officials, and the general public. Must have a valid
Connecticut Driver’s License (Class 2 CDL with riders) and be able to
operate plant vehicles. Must have sufficient physical strength to work in
less than favorable conditions in an emergency situation. Must be in good
physical condition able to do all jobs. Must have mechanical and process
trouble shooting skills.
Must have a minimum of 5 years experience and
ability in the operation and maintenance of a modern wastewater treatment
facility using the activated sludge secondary treatment process and all
related pump and ejector station equipment.
Must possess a valid Class 2 Wastewater Plant
Operator Certificate from the State of Connecticut Department of
Environmental Protection and be able to obtain a Class 3
Within (1) year of hire date. Must have a High School
Education or equivalent.Working knowledge of a plant SCADA System would be a
plus,but not a requirement.
Salary:
$25.34 to $26.88 plus
longevity.

Experience:

water / wastewater treatment process/ operations problems. Demonstrated
successful ability to compile, negotiate, and manage at-risk construction
contracts(At Risk" Construction Management Contrasted to the Pure "Agency"
Construction Manager is the "At Risk" Construction Manager, who provides
advice and construction leadership on a project during the planning and
design phases(3) and provides construction leadership, contract management,
direction, supervision, coordination, and control of the work during the
construction phase. While the owner generally will contract separately with
the design professional(4), the Construction Manager contracts directly with
the trade contractors. Under this scenario, the Construction Manager has
control over the means and methods of construction, the management and
safety of workers and delivery of the completed work consistent with the
owner's cost, time and quality requirements.)
Experience in working
with integrated teams comprised of design professionals, contractors,
consultants in delivery of DBO projects. In-depth experience in project
scheduling, cost analysis, contract terms development, technical scope
development, contracting, cash flow analysis and other construction project
related functions.
Demonstrates ability to
develop unique solutions for complex technical problems that may include the
design of new systems or development of solutions having few or no
precedents.
Consistently
demonstrates leadership ability and regularly serves as a technical or

Description:
Evaluates the operation, maintenance, and performance of
water and wastewater treatment facilities. Schedules the preventive and
corrective maintenance for the mechanic using the Jobs Plus software.
Analyzes and optimizes existing system designs and operating parameters,
implementing performance testing and troubleshooting and resolving routine
and moderately complex operational equipment and instrumentation problems
within treatment plant operations. Assists Plant Manager in scheduling
shifts and personnel, planning, assigning and supervising work. Inspects
Plant installations and directs or takes required corrective actions,
reports serious or potentially hazardous malfunctions to the Plant Manager.
Assists in maintenance of plant records and in preparation of reports.
Inspects plant log records, gauges, meters and other plant testing and
measuring devices to ensure that equipment is functioning properly.
Interfaces with vendors and contractors. Develops startup and testing
procedures, standard operating procedures, safety procedures, preventive
maintenance procedures, and operation and maintenance manuals for treatment
plants.
Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and valid CT driver’s
license required, CDL preferred. Valid CT Grade “3” Wastewater Operator
Certificate required with 5-7 years experience in wastewater treatment; or
an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. In
addition, prefer 2-3 years of supervisory experience. Valid CT Grade “2”
Water Operator Certificate required with 3-5 years of experience in water
treatment.

Description:
This working Supervisor
position will oversee the daily operation of the WPCF and eight sewer
pumping stations.
This position is
responsible for the technical and supervisory work involving the operation
of the water pollution control facility and its pump stations. The position
schedules personnel, assigns, supervises and evaluates a small work group;
monitors plant operating conditions; conducts laboratory tests and operates
facility equipment on an as needed basis; trains and counsels employees;
administers collective bargaining and oral warnings and recommends higher
level discipline. Assures safe work practices in a hazardous and toxic
chemical environment. Investigates and recommends the purchase of equipment
and instrumentation and monitors budget expenditures.
Experience:
Requires a high school
diploma or the equivalent plus 6 years experience in the operation and
maintenance of a Class IV Water Pollution Control Facility, including at
least two years in a crew leader or supervisory capacity, or an equivalent
combination of education and qualifying experience substituting on a year
for year basis.
Must have a valid State
of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection Class III Operator’s
certificate in Waste Water Treatment and a valid Class B, Commercial
Driver’s License.

Haven County facility.
The Plant Manager Manages, Plans, and organizes the daily operation,
maintenance and testing of large / complex wastewater treatment plant
and merchant bio-solids incineration processing facilities. In addition
the Plant Manager assures its compliance with established contractual,
environmental, safety, operating, and emergency response requirements
and maintains ongoing client interface to keep clients informed, enhance
client relations and increase bio-solids/industrial wastewater market
penetration.
Experience:
A minimum seven years responsible charge of
operating facility and
experience with fluidized bed incineration or related process is highly
desirable.
Must possess or be able to obtain within one year a Connecticut Class IV
WWT operators license, and have engineering degree in related
discipline.
